Happy to be here

Its back to school time in my neck of the woods and many of the families here aren’t happy to be sending their kids back.  For some its because its a test year and well, that just means lots of test prep for something they aren’t technically supposed to prep for.  Other kids have some learning or behavioural issues and its another year of struggle coming up.  The kids aren’t exactly chomping at the bit either.  I guess we are past the cute kindy years where everyone was jumping up and down talking about how exciting school is!

I talked to a mom across the street for about an hour today.  We discussed her kids.  She asked about homeschooling.  As I walked away my step felt a little springier and I realized that I just got excited about my life all over again.

I love being with my kids.  I love our homeschool friends and community.  I love the art classes, the piano teacher, the activities, sessions and playdates that make up our “school year”.  I love the freedom to push them ahead when they are ready to move on in math or science.  We are not artificially constrained by grade levels.  I love the luxury of time to spend extra days or weeks on problem areas.  I love the pace of life.  And that I am in charge.  We can take a day and run off into the city, taking in a nearly vacant museum and a cupcake shop.  I love that we can decide to stay in when we aren’t quite 100% better from that cold.  I love our life.

Tomorrow is the first day of September.  Another year of blogging on the horizon.  I feel very blessed, if that is a word someone like me can use. 😉

I’m just very happy to be here.  And you know what?  So are my kids.  Its just awesome!

  1. You’re right. That’s awesome, and just what I needed to hear too. One powerful list of positivity 🙂

I’m having an attack of the blahs and self doubts, and needed a boost. This helps tip the scale … thanks!

  2. Vanessa, I’ve been feeling kind of blah about the whole upcoming term too. It wasn’t until I started listening to everyone else that I finally realized what a golden situation I am in 🙂 Sometimes it takes someone else to point out how awesome our lives are to see it again,
